Hi! I have read all the posts about squibs for body hits but I am trying to get hold of a similar effect but one that works on inanimate objects such as walls and trees. As I am trying to search for this sort of effect to buy I am most interested in in the actual name of this effect. Are they still squibs but without the blood pack or do they have a different name? I have seen effects programes on wheere they have whole rows of them going off. Do they have the same lisensing restrictions as the body shot squibs?
If anyone has any ides how to create this effect any other way similar to the air compresion sqibs. We will be using them away from actors so there shouldnt be any danger to them. Any ideas?

I've never used bullet hits because I?ve had no need for them...yet. I don't know how great the insecticide can thing works with blood but why don't you try loading the thing with lose soil, building a trench for the pipe then covering it up with only the reminder of the pipe sticking out. I'd imagine you could plant three or fore in the ground with one or two people firing them off towards the side.
I dealt it would work but you gain great experience from your mistakes. - I think the key here to succeeding is to experiment.
Wall squibs? I'd imagine that you would still need a license if not more so.
I'm sorry I wasn't a lot of help. It's amusing that when somebody cries for help in this forum nobody try?s to help at all.

I've heard you can try party poppers - cutting off the plastic container with the streamers in, attaching the small flat section to the object and running an extra string off-camera.
I don't know how effective/dangerous this is.

As for wall hits, you could put up a slab of...damn, whatever the wood is called that's really light and flimsy, with buttons attached under the flimsy wood to very thin wire on the outside. Pre-cut the area around the button and paint the whole thing whatever color you want. When it's time to film, yank out the buttons really fast and it should look like a bullet hitting the wall in a little spray of wood. Haven't tried this myself, but I've heard of it working for others...

When we did a bullet hit we used an air compressor. If you hook thin tubing to an air compressor nozzel (the kind with the button to control air flow) with the ever reliable gaffer tape, and run it up behind a balsa wood plank (for a wall) that has been scored to make it able to break with ease. Also take splinters and maybe sticky tack them to the back of the plank for added debris effects. Prepare the hose in a similar fasion to the compressed air bullets but put some kind of hard projectile in the hole to force the wood to break. With a tree, you could cut a chunk of the bark out, hollow a space for the hose and do the same thing...as long as you don't do too much damage to the tree.
Try a bunch of different methods, until you get one that works.
